Patchwork is a crafting technique that involves the sewing together of smaller pieces of fabric to make a larger design. It is often used to make quilts with the squares making a lovely pattern.

Our blocks are perfect for making patchwork designs, and if you dye your fabrics beforehand you will be able to create some beautiful unique squares. We have an excellent video showing how you can use our blocks to make a lovely patchwork quilt.

Let’s go on a Treasure Hunt

Come with us to Northern India

This is a wonderful, luxury tour of Northern India taking in some amazing sites and places. It is a 15 day trip which starts in Delhi before moving on to Jaipur, Agra, where we will visit the stunning Taj Mahal before moving on the Lucknow and Varanasi before returning to Delhi and then home.

This is a special holiday and one really not to be missed. In addition to the well known places we will be visiting, we will also be taking in lots of other beautiful Villages, Gardens and even Palaces in these 15 days. We have called this trip a Treasure Hunt, but in truth you wont have to search very hard to find the treasures as they will just appear in front of you fay after day.

New printing techniques in our shop.

We have been adding to the stock we have in our shop and have found these lovely Moulding Mats. These rubber mats will enable you to put some super background patterns onto the fabrics you use for crafting which will be perfect to enhance the designs you create.

Stencils

New styles of stencils

We have sourced some lovely new stencil designs for you including this lovely Americana Finch. Use the smallest amount of paint when you use these stencils as a little really does go a long way and it will also prolong the life of the stencil if you use a smaller amount of paint.

Next Quilt Show

Alexandra Palace London UK in October

Colouricious has a stand at the London Knitting & Stitching show at Alexandra Palace in October and would love to see any of you that can make it there. I will be demonstrating some new creative fabric backgrounds for block printing, so come and be inspired. The Colouricious stand is Stand G32 and the show runs for 5 days from Wednesday 7th – Sunday 11th October.

These patchwork bags have been made differently, both in which you can try at home.

You can make this patchwork bag or use a Vogue pattern. Then you can block print on top of your fabric using our Colouricious printing blocks. This is because it makes it easier for you to centralise your block print after you have stitched the sewing pattern together. 

This bag was made by block printing with our Colouricious printing blocks onto the fabric and then the fabric sewn together to make the bag. We recommend you use our Colouricious fabric paint as they are easy to fix with a simple iron and they are machine washable so you can keep on using your bag!

Here is a kids craft idea for patchwork quilting.

    

 

Kids crafts is so much fun using block prints. during the holidays why not try block printing a quilt in a day. Children can easily block print lovely patchwork pieces to stitch into a colourful quilt. Quilting for youngsters can be very rewarding if you use great colours and wooden printing blocks. if you want to know how to make a quilt here are some simple instructions.

How to block print your own fabric

1) Choose a selection of random sized fabric to use as your patchwork.

2) Block prints are created using wooden printing blocks to print onto each piece of patchwork. Remember you must have a foam mat underneath your fabric to create a clear block print.

3) Children can just print in straight rows for a simple and easy effect.

4) Try and play with different patterns with your wood stamps to create different designs. There is so much you can do with just one block by rotating it and placing it in different positions.

5) Use Colouricious fabric paints which you simply iron to fix. The fabric paints that we recommend are very reliable. When they have been fixed the colour stays permanent and you can wash your fabric up to 40 degrees without damaging the paint. Also the fabric stays soft and is not hardened by this paint.
